NEET UG 2026 Registration: What’s New This Year? Aadhaar-Based eKYC, Live Photograph, City Selection and More

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced several important changes in the NEET UG 2026 registration process, aimed at enhancing transparency, improving candidate verification, and preventing impersonation and application discrepancies. Medical aspirants planning to appear for NEET UG 2026 must carefully note these updates before filling out the application form.
NEET UG is the national-level entrance examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BVSc & AH and other undergraduate medical courses across India.
Aadhaar-Based eKYC Introduced
One of the major changes in NEET UG 2026 is the introduction of Aadhaar-based electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) verification. Candidates are now required to authenticate their identity using their Aadhaar number during the registration process.
This step is intended to:
Verify candidate identity in real time
Prevent multiple or fake registrations
Reduce errors in personal details
Candidates who are unable to use Aadhaar-based verification may be allowed to register using alternative identity documents, as per NTA guidelines.
Live Photograph Mandatory
Another significant update is the mandatory live photograph capture during the application process. Instead of uploading a previously clicked photograph, candidates must now:
Use a webcam or mobile camera
Capture their photo live during registration
Ensure clear visibility of the face with proper lighting
This move aims to curb impersonation and ensure that the applicant appearing in the examination is the same individual who registered.
Revised City Selection Process
NTA has also modified the exam city selection process. Candidates will now be required to select preferred exam cities more carefully, as allotment will be done strictly based on availability and proximity.
Applicants are advised to:
Choose cities closest to their residence
Avoid selecting distant cities unless necessary
Finalize choices carefully, as changes may not be allowed later
Enhanced Document Verification
The NEET UG 2026 registration form includes stricter document verification norms. Candidates must upload:
Valid identity proof
Category or reservation certificates (if applicable)
Class 10 and Class 12 details accurately
Any mismatch between uploaded documents and original records may lead to rejection at later stages of admission.
Other Key Registration Updates
Improved application portal with better navigation
Auto-fetching of details through Aadhaar to reduce manual errors
Clear instructions and warnings before final submission
One-time correction facility expected after registration closes
Important Advisory for Candidates
NTA has advised candidates to:
Use their own Aadhaar details and active mobile number
Avoid third-party assistance during registration
Ensure stable internet connectivity for live photo capture
Double-check all entries before final submission
Incorrect or false information may lead to cancellation of candidature at any stage of the admission process.
