IP University to Accept CUET Scores for B.Tech Admissions from 2026–27 Academic Session

In a major move aimed at widening access to engineering education, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) has announced that it will begin accepting CUET-UG scores for B.Tech admissions starting from the 2026–27 academic session. This marks the first time the university will use CUET as an admission criterion for its undergraduate engineering programmes.

CUET Introduced as an Additional Admission Channel

Until now, B.Tech admissions at IP University were primarily based on JEE Main ranks and, in some cases, the university’s own entrance examinations. With the latest decision, CUET scores will be considered as an additional and secondary pathway, particularly to fill seats that remain vacant after admissions through JEE Main and other preferred channels.

University officials clarified that JEE Main will continue to remain the primary and first-preference examination for B.Tech admissions. CUET will be used only after exhausting admissions through JEE Main and other applicable national or university-level entrance tests.

    Objective Behind the Decision

The move is aimed at ensuring maximum utilisation of available engineering seats and offering more opportunities to students who may not have secured high ranks in JEE Main but have performed well in CUET. With CUET emerging as a common entrance test for undergraduate admissions across central, state, and private universities, IP University’s decision aligns with the broader national trend of standardised testing.

Education experts believe this change could benefit a large number of aspirants, especially those from diverse academic backgrounds, by providing an alternative route into engineering programmes.

    Seat Allocation and Admission Process

    • JEE Main Paper 1 scores will be used first for B.Tech admissions.

    • CUET-UG scores will be considered later, mainly for vacant or leftover seats.

    • The detailed programme-wise admission rules, eligibility criteria, and counselling schedule will be released in the university’s official admission brochure for the 2026–27 session.

    Impact on Engineering Aspirants

Students planning to pursue B.Tech at IP University are now advised to appear in both JEE Main and CUET-UG to improve their chances of admission. The decision adds flexibility to the admission process and reduces the risk of losing a year due to intense competition in a single examination.

    About IP University

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University is one of Delhi’s leading state universities, offering more than 40,000 seats across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes through its university schools and affiliated colleges. The institution has also expanded its academic offerings by introducing several new courses for the 2026–27 academic year.

    Key Takeaway

The inclusion of CUET scores for B.Tech admissions reflects IP University’s effort to adopt a more inclusive and student-friendly admission framework, while maintaining the importance of JEE Main as the core engineering entrance examination.
