IIT Hyderabad Student Shatters Placement Records with ₹2.5 Crore Global Job Offer
In a historic moment for campus recruitment, a final‑year student from the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) has achieved an unprecedented placement result, securing a ₹2.5 crore per annum job offer, the highest salary package in the institute’s history.
Historic Offer from Optiver
The student, Edward Nathan Varghese, a 21‑year‑old pursuing Computer Science Engineering, converted a two‑month summer internship at global trading firm Optiver (based in the Netherlands) into a pre‑placement offer (PPO). He is set to begin his full‑time role as a software engineer in July 2026.
Varghese revealed that Optiver was the only company he interviewed with during the placement season, and he was elated when the offer was extended — a sentiment shared by his family, who are also engineers. Born and raised in Hyderabad, he completed his schooling in Bengaluru before enrolling at IIT Hyderabad.
Record‑Breaking Placement Season
The ₹2.5 crore package dramatically eclipses the previous highest package at IIT Hyderabad — around ₹1 crore recorded in 2017 — and far exceeds recent top offers of ₹90 lakh (2023‑24) and ₹66 lakh (2024‑25).
