IIM Amritsar Assigns 50% Weightage to CAT 2025 Scores for MBA Admissions 2026–2028

    IIM

Amritsar: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Amritsar has announced its revised admission policy for the MBA programme (2026–28 batch), giving substantial importance to the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2025. As per the latest criteria, the institute has allocated 50% weightage to CAT 2025 scores during the initial shortlisting stage for MBA admissions.

The move highlights IIM Amritsar’s continued focus on maintaining a balance between entrance exam performance and candidates’ academic, professional, and personal profiles.

    Two-Stage MBA Selection Process

The MBA admission process at IIM Amritsar will be conducted in two major stages — the Pre-Personal Interview (Pre-PI) stage and the Post-Personal Interview (Post-PI) stage.

    Pre-Personal Interview (Pre-PI) Stage

At this stage, candidates will be shortlisted for the Personal Interview based on a composite Pre-PI score, calculated using the following components:

    • CAT 2025 score: 50%

    • Class 10 marks: 10%

    • Class 12 marks: 10%

    • Graduation marks: 5%

    • Work experience: 15%

    • Gender diversity: 10%

Candidates must also meet the minimum sectional and overall CAT percentile cut-offs prescribed by the institute. For general category candidates, a high overall percentile along with strong sectional performance in VARC, DILR, and Quantitative Ability is mandatory to qualify for further rounds.

    Post-Personal Interview (Post-PI) Stage

Shortlisted candidates will appear for the Personal Interview (PI), where their communication skills, academic understanding, leadership potential, and overall suitability for management education will be assessed.

The Post-PI score will be calculated using the following weightage:

    • Personal Interview: 70%

    • Work experience: 10%

    • Gender diversity: 10%

    • Academic diversity: 10%

    Final Merit List Calculation

The final admission offers will be made based on an aggregate score, calculated as:

    Final Score = 70% of Pre-PI Score + 30% of Post-PI Score

Candidates will be ranked category-wise, and offers will be issued according to merit, seat availability, and reservation norms.

    Significance for MBA Aspirants

By assigning half of the total Pre-PI weightage to CAT 2025, IIM Amritsar has reinforced the importance of strong performance in the national-level management entrance exam. At the same time, the inclusion of academic records, work experience, and diversity factors ensures a holistic evaluation of applicants.

For aspirants, this means that while a high CAT score remains crucial, consistent academics, relevant professional experience, and effective interview performance can significantly improve final selection chances.

    What Candidates Should Focus On

    • Achieving a strong overall and sectional CAT 2025 percentile

    • Maintaining a solid academic profile across Class 10, 12, and graduation

    • Gaining relevant work experience

    • Preparing thoroughly for the Personal Interview

The revised admission policy reflects IIM Amritsar’s objective of selecting well-rounded candidates capable of excelling in a rigorous MBA programme and future leadership roles.
