In a major move to strengthen transparency, accuracy, and accountability in board assessments, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a mandatory undertaking for all internal and external practical examiners, warning that any error in practical marks uploaded on the CBSE portal may invite strict action.
The directive, issued ahead of the Class X and XII practical examinations starting January 1, has triggered an urgent wave of preparations across CBSE-affiliated schools in Ranchi.
According to CBSE, the newly enforced undertaking requires examiners to formally certify that all uploaded marks are correct, verified, and free of discrepancies. The board has emphasized that the step is essential as schools adapt to the newly implemented dual-board examination system, which demands precise data handling and timely submission.
Schools Respond with Intensified Preparations
Following the directive, Ranchi schools have begun upgrading operational processes on multiple fronts:
Science laboratories, computer labs, and skill-based practice rooms are being reorganized for smooth conduct of practicals.
Schools are conducting mock practicals and rehearsal sessions to familiarise students with revised timings and procedures.
Staff orientation sessions are underway to brief teachers and external examiners about the undertaking requirement and mandatory verification steps.
Several institutions have set up dedicated examination control rooms, trained staff for CBSE portal data entry, and scheduled buffer days for cross-checking marks before final submission.
Principals Welcome the Move, Call It ‘Timely and Necessary’
Niraj Kumar Sinha, Principal, Firayalal Public School, said:
“Requiring an undertaking will ensure that the marks uploaded genuinely reflect the students’ performance. This step will reduce human error and protect the integrity of board results. CBSE has rightly prioritized fairness and transparency.”
Lalan Kumar, Principal, Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir, added that schools are adjusting their academic schedules:
“We are realigning the academic calendar to finish coursework earlier so students have sufficient time for practical preparation. The board’s guidelines are strict, but they ensure quality.”
Psychographic Society’s Analysis: Why This Matters for Students
Experts at Psychographic Society believe that the new guidelines will have long-term benefits:
Students’ board results will be more transparent and trustworthy.
Chances of data mismatch, wrong uploads, or clerical errors will significantly decrease.
Schools and examiners will follow stricter time management and documentation protocols.
Students’ actual performance will be captured accurately and fairly.
Psychographic Society views this as an important reform that strengthens digital accountability in India’s education system.
Conclusion
With CBSE tightening its monitoring of practical evaluations, Ranchi schools have begun urgent, large-scale preparations to ensure compliance. The mandatory undertaking marks a new era of accuracy and responsibility in board examinations. As the January practicals approach, schools are racing to complete training, verification, and infrastructure upgrades to meet CBSE’s zero-error expectations.
