About CNLU

CNLU was established under the Chanakya National Law University Act,2006 (Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006)and included in section 2(f) & 12(B) of the U.G.C. Act, 1956. The University had its initial presence in the AN Sinha Institute, and then, in August, 2010, it shifted to its own campus situated in Nyaya Nagar, Mithapur village, which is spread over 18 acres of land.

Chanakya National Law University Patna also known as CNLU Patna, is an autonomous university, established in 2006. The university is recognised by the UGC and Bar Council of India (BCI). In 2025, IIRF ranked it 35 in the Law category, while India Today ranked it 12 in the same category.

CNLU Patna offers admission to BA LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), LLM, PG Diploma, PhD and LLD programs for eligible candidates. The university accepts merit in CLAT UG for admission to BA LLB (Hons) / BBA LLB (Hons) programs. The university also conducts the entrance examinations for LLM and PhD programs. Chanakya National Law University Admission

CNLU Patna Admission for all the courses is based on merit in the respective entrance examination. For BA LLB (Hons) / BBA LLB (Hons) Admission, the university accepts CLAT UG scores. Admission to LLM and PhD at CNLU Patna is based on merit in the entrance examination followed by the counselling conducted by the university.

CNLU Patna offers BA LLB(Hons) as its flagship course. For admission to the BA LLB(Hons) program candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with an aggregate of 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) and need to appear for CLAT Examination. Generally the application form for the CLAT commenced in July to October with the application fee of INR 4,000. The total fee for the BA LLB program is INR 8.86 Lakhs.

CNLU Patna Campus

CNLU Patna campus is spread over 18 acres and is calm and has good buildings, clean classrooms, and a library. It also offers hostels to live in, a moot court room for practice, and space for sports and other activities. The teachers are kind and help students. The college is safe and gives a good place to learn law.

According to student reviews, the teachers of all subjects are very good. They teach in a simple way and also focus on practical and real-life parts of the subject. The campus stays open till late at night and has many green trees around. Students come from many parts of India, so the environment is mixed and friendly.
