AYUSH NEET Counselling 2025: Maharashtra Colleges Refuse Waivers to Women, EBC Students; Demand Full Fees

    AYUSH

In a major setback to candidates seeking admission under AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) courses, several private colleges in Maharashtra have reportedly refused to grant mandatory fee waivers to women and students belonging to the Economically Backward Class (EBC) during the ongoing NEET AYUSH counselling 2025. Instead, the colleges are allegedly demanding full payment of tuition fees, creating confusion and concern among students and parents.

According to the norms set by the Maharashtra government, female candidates and students from EBC backgrounds are entitled to concessions in tuition fees at AYUSH colleges across the state. However, during the first and second rounds of admission, complaints have surfaced from multiple districts, highlighting that colleges are ignoring these rules and pressuring candidates to deposit the entire fee amount before confirming seats.

Students and parents have expressed strong objections, claiming that the refusal to honor state-mandated waivers is a direct violation of government orders. Many families, already struggling with financial constraints, argue that such practices not only create barriers to education but also discourage deserving candidates from pursuing AYUSH courses.

Representatives of student unions and parent associations have demanded immediate intervention by the Directorate of AYUSH, Maharashtra. They have urged authorities to issue strict directives to private colleges and ensure that the prescribed waivers for women and EBC students are implemented without compromise.

Education activists also point out that this is not the first time such discrepancies have been reported during the counselling process. Last year, too, similar grievances were raised, but corrective measures were delayed. They emphasize that unless the government enforces penalties or conducts direct monitoring, colleges will continue to flout admission rules.

With the counselling process still underway, affected students are hopeful that the state government will take timely action to prevent exploitation and safeguard the rights of beneficiaries under the fee waiver policy.
